WHO IS PIXELTONGUE?

PixelTongue is an electronic music duo that lies between the hyper-digital, the interactive and the theatrical. Pushing the boundaries of multimedia and immersiveness, the ensemble performs and composer their own music with instruments that go from game controllers, to paper maché shakers, to gesture recognition software.

Coming from a background of traditional acoustic musicmaking, Pixeltongue was co-founded by composer Christian and vocalist-composer Charlotte Mundy as a way to utilize electronics to weave together the sensibilities of both practices. They harness bold sounds from electronics to expand and recontextualize everyday electronic objects into exciting new sounds, visuals, and sensations.

Recent projects such as Following/Flocking, a collaborative piece for solo soprano, live visuals, and electronics, explores the intersection between human error and technology. Other recent highlights include their performance of Remy Siu’s ‘New Notations for two players’, a piece that explores free improvisation within a digital interactive environment, and ‘My Voice is a Broken Chorus’. A piece for solo soprano and electronics, where the performer interface with a sampled version of their voice through intricate musical textures.
